The Art League in Alexandria, VA made this video (thanks, George!) and posted it on Youtube. This shows the first course of raising a copper vessel. The hammer is a modified mason's hammer. The raising stake is one I had cast years ago when I was living in Minnesota. These days I forge and weld my own stakes.
Here's a stop motion video of a copper vase being raised from a flat sheet. The disc I started with was 9.5 inches in diameter. On taller objects sometimes I will have two or even three courses of raising going at once. The vase was raised to vertical in only seven courses, which is a LOT less than I would normally use. Because I was stopping every time around with the hammer my arm never got tired.
